For Christmas my dad wants Binoculars…and i have no idea which one to buy??

OK so my dad wants binoculars for christmas this year. He wants to use them for when he goes to football games…and fishing etc. I am clueless as to what is the best binoculars to buy. I am also setting a budget of $50.00 i know there are lots of high quality binoculars at a much higher price but i want something that he will love and that is also affordable…

Go to www.opticsplanet.com. Go to their forum, ask a question there and specify your budget. Joanie K, the moderator of the forum is extermely helpful, honest and knowledgeable. I’ve seen her even recommend a binocular that they don’t sell.

What I know is, if looking for a pair of bino under $50, make sure it’s a porro design. Porro is where the lenses are at an offset, so the front (objective) lens is off to the sides compared to the rear(occular) lenses. This type of binoculars are easier and cheaper to make, so for the low price they usually put in a better set of lens compared to the roof bino of the same price. Roofs, are sleeker and more compact but also more expensive to make so for that price they will give you crappy glass to make up the difference in cost.
