Binoculars Eye Strain

How long is a reasonable time to adjust to new glasses?
I have had my new glasses for 2 weeks now and wear them all day every day. I consider myself to be short sighted but understand I have an astigmatism, however when I wear my new glasses I feel like I am wearing binoculars. Yet when I look at something nearby I can feel my eyes really straining to see it clearly and I have been getting headaches.
I dont necessarily think my prescription is too strong, just out of balance. Like I dont need to see that far away and looking at things up close shouldnt strain my eyes. Or perhaps it is too strong I dont know.
The optician is fobbing me off and I am wondering whether I am making a fuss over nothing. Any advice?
24-72 hrs of constant wear is normal for adjustment, unless you’ve had a signifigant change in your prescription(even still 2 weeks is too long). they’ve either made a mistake in your prescription or made the glasses wrong. If you are getting nowhere with your optician then take them to another optical to have the prescription checked in the lenses. Take your written rx with you to compare. If glasses were made wrong then take them back and demand they remake them. Sometimes all it takes is to have your pd(pupil distance) off by a couple of mm to throw you off balance even though the actual numbers of your rx may be right. If the glasses are made right(including pd) then it’s probably a problem with your prescription. (dr.’s make mistakes, I’ve seen many dr. rx changes in my 12 yrs of making glasses). Tell your dr. you need a recheck as you are having problems. the retest should be free( within a small time frame ). They are legally bound to provide you with the proper prescription and glasses that work for you. Start with the glasses first though, chances are they were made wrong. Then go from there.
